Saudi Arabia condemns assault on Iranian consulate in Damascus

Saudi Gazette Report

MAKKAH — Saudi Arabia condemned on Tuesday the targeting of the Iranian consulate building in the Syrian capital Damascus, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated the Kingdom’s categorical rejection of targeting diplomatic facilities for any justification, and under any pretext. The ministry affirmed that this act is a violation of international diplomatic laws and the rules of diplomatic immunity.

According to media reports, suspected Israeli warplanes bombed Iran’s embassy in Syria on Monday in a strike that Iran said killed seven of its military advisers, including three senior commanders. The strike hit a consular building in the embassy compound in the Mezzeh district of Damascus. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said in a statement that seven Iranian military advisers died in the strike including Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a senior commander of its Quds Force.
